There's so many reasons why you may open up your home to extra guests. It's easy if you've got a spare room and a couple of bathrooms in your house, you just have to think ahead. Here are some top tips ffor how you can make your home guest-friendly.
As summer winds down, it is a great idea to freshen up the living room and rearrange the decor to suit the colder months. Whether you just want a small change, or you believe now is the time for a living room overhaul we've got some tips to help you get started with your autumn interior design.
There's something to say for flowers brightening up a home, however when it starts getting colder you can't just rely on them to keep the room looking fresh. While there are obviously some that flourish around this time, you may want to switch to a more durable decorating solution that doesn't require ongoing care, such as decorative wreaths.
Autumn-themed feature walls:
Autumnal patterns on the walls, whether they are hung and framed paintings or more creative ideas like decorative, removable tree stencils are always a good touch to signal the changing of the winds as well.
Using nature as your inspiration, sometimes adding a feature wall, with add flourish can make the room pop! You can use Autumn hues to add more flavour. Take care when you're using darker colours - they can make the room appear smaller.
Use autumn shades to accessorise:
Otherwise, autumn colours match warm cream colours well – so if you're nervous about making too big an impact, keep the walls a light neutral and use autumn shades for curtains, flooring and accessories.
Use an autumn-themed centrepiece to create a focal point:
Every living room needs a focal point, and what better piece than a fireplace? Staging couches and tables around this is a great way to establish a relaxing atmosphere on those crisp autumn nights. If your living room allows it, replacing regular light switches with ones that dim is a great mood setter.
Check the curtains:
With colder weather coming, Autumn is the perfect time to freshen up the curtains in the living area. While light curtains fit the long, summer evenings, thermally-lined blockout curtain will help seal in the light and create a mood for the winter. This will keep the heat in during the long autumn evenings.
Preparing the living room for autumn can be a great way to give it a makeover, so you can hunker down comfortably over winter.
Thanks for getting the house finished before Christmas. The weather was certainly against you at times! We always enjoy having Ron, Arthur, Justin etc. at either home on either job.Craig and Maureen
Very many thanks to you and Ron and John. Those guys did a great job and I would recommend Mitchell Decorators to everyone. Everyone who comes here remarks on the job, and now that I have all the pictures in place, my home looks just great.Daphne
Thank you so much for your patience and kindness over the past 18 months. You have, with your generous and gracious attitude, been one of my pillars of strength through a difficult time.Peter
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support over many years at Hohepa. When former Chair John Morrissey suggested that I meet up with you and consider using your services, I was somewhat reserved on the matter. However, seeing that John had used you to build his own home, and to effect renovations and repairs at his own factory, I thought it wise to see his suggestion through, and at least to meet with you. I can now describe the meeting as quite fortuitous for Hohepa, as within a few years we were rocked by the earthquakes and there was major work to be carried out to get both sites up and running again. With the massive additional workload that this brought, I can honestly say that I wouldn't have been able to cope without your help and support through those difficult times. The earthquake repairs were, at times, virtually a full time job.Raymond Eberhard
Cookie Time have used Mitchell Decorators on a number of office painting jobs and always had great service. The staff are always happy to help and leave the work area clean and tidy. There have never been any problems with working odd hours or over a week end.Dean Gibbs
